New Work Published: Angelina and the Egg! by David and Faith Brzezinski

Well, sort of new work.  I took a back seat on this one, working mainly as the book's designer.  David Brzezinski wrote the story and his talented daughter, Faith Brzezinski, provided the illustrations.  I (along with some help from assistant art monkey Cameron) added a few photographic elements to help unify the pictures and words, chose the fonts and generally tweaked the layout of the thing.
From the book's description on Amazon:

"Angelina is a dragon. There is a new egg in her house. A new egg means a new sister. Well, it should mean a new sister. What if it doesn't? What if the new egg isn't all it's cracked up to be?

I think the book will be a treat for younger readers, and I say that not just because of the role I had in it.  The intent of the design was to create the illusion that the pages of the book were actually created by the main character, and so the photos you see are actually photos from within that dragon's world.  Take a look at it and you'll see what I mean.
The story itself is fun and entertaining, and will make a great bedtime or classroom story for any kid, but especially those who might have a sibling on the way.

I've worked with David before and always enjoyed the experience and this time was no exception.  Check out the book for yourself, support a young artist, and be sure to let them know what you think!

New Work Published (Sort of): Deluge of Dolphins by Joshua Price

Out now, you can (and should) buy "Deluge of Dolphins" by Joshua Price, third in his absurdist genre-crossing series, "Annals of Absurdity".
If you'll recall, I had created art for the first two books in this series, "A Drizzle of Zombies" and "A Downpour of Apes".  As of the third novel, Joshua's gone with a slightly different look for the entire series, but he's retained some of the elements I designed for him, and he had me do the design and some fiddly bits of art for this new cover.  Honestly, I like the direction he ended up choosing, as I think it ended up suiting the tone of his books better than the original idea.  That's not to say that the original covers are any slouch, just that the current versions are better.
Of course, having read the first two novels in this series, as well as the related short story, "A Mind Not Worth Controlling", I strongly recommend giving them a read, under any cover.  Summer's just around the corner, and you're going to want some good beach reading, or something to amuse yourself as you sit in your lawn chair sipping a cold beverage of choice and pretending not to ogle the girl/guy sunbathing next door.  I can't think of anything better to while away those summer hours than this set of highly entertaining and reasonably priced novels.  They're guaranteed to put a smile on your face, and possibly a zombie in your toolshed.
Deluge of Dolphins....get it now, and at the very least, when the great dolphin rebellion arrives, you'll be able to say you saw it coming.

By the way, and just for fun, here's my currently unused cover art for the second book in the series, "A Downpour of Apes".  Enjoy.

New Work Published: Lovecraft EZine #11

The latest issue of Lovecraft eZine is up, and this time I've managed to snag myself a cover spot.  This time, I depict a Great Old One menacing the shores of a major metropolis....check it out over at Lovecraft eZine.
As usual, you can read the magazine online for free, or pay a small amount to download it for your mobile reading device.  I recommend the latter option, since us Lovecraft fans need to be doing as much as we can to keep work like this alive, and publisher Mike Davis really rolls out a top notch effort with every issue.  Even better, subscribe to the magazine for a buck a month, and they'll email you the mobile version when it's available.
To really put the icing on the cake, be sure to check out their newest feature, audio versions of the stories in the magazine.  Nothing makes that walk in the park more enjoyable than pouring some eldritch horror into your ears!

Just to give you a taste of the kind of work I'm doing for this magazine, here's my illustration for the Henrik Harksen story "Just an Accountant" in issue #9.  It's an attempt to evoke a little of the old Virgil Finlay Weird Tales style.  Not entirely successful, as I don't yet have Finlay's masterful hand with hatching, but I think it's headed in the right direction.  What do you think?

New Work Published: UFO's in Wartime by Mack Maloney

Today is the official release date for "UFO's in Wartime" by the multi-talented author (and sometimes musician) Mack Maloney.  This book contains five of my illustrations, created specially for this publication.  You can see early versions of two of the images here, but you're going to need to get the book to see the finished work.

This book is a nonfiction review of military encounters with UFO's in different periods, reminiscent of some of the better Daniken-era books that I loved to read so much when I was younger.  The Amazon description reads:

"Although often written off as myths, UFOs are found in Renaissance Art, on ancient coins, etched on cave walls-and even reported in the Bible. Even more surprising is when they are documented most: in times of war. These sightings are made by high ranking officials, soldiers, and newsreporters. Why do these sightings spike so drastically during wartime? Could it be mistaken aircraft? Or is someone-or something- looking in on us? "

The book is available in paperback or digital formats right now, just in time to be a great gift for the UFO-phile in your family.
